作曲家创作音乐时为什么要音画分离？

音乐有新的形式是一件好事情，比如与画面结合，或是与其他媒体结合（比如MV、音乐与装置艺术结合的应用等等）。
但是 “给交响乐配上画面” 所得的结果，不是 某的第某交响曲，而是 某的第某交响曲配图版。是一个新的作品。这点请谨记。创作者音画分离，是因为他们想要做的、能做的，就是写出音乐，他们只是想探索声音能传达的内容，很多时候，表达反而是次要的或者根本没有纳入考虑的范围。
并且我不认为在古典音乐上动这种念头是值得的，它们都已经是古典了，我们无需在前人的登峰之作上做这种阐释（但这不意味着做新阐释不好，只是题主描述的想法我不太喜欢）。敬之，然后开辟新的道路。新的想法、对于媒介的新的探索，最好还是应用到当代的艺术中，而事实上这种探索一直在继续，我对此接触的不多也不深入，寥举两例，请自备梯子：

Data on power of X-radiation flux from the Sun is received in real time from the satellite GOES15 which is tracking solar activity. It is being converted into streams of sound, light and electric discharges, thus allowing a spectator to experience in more intensive and evident way the influence of the main luminary of the solar system.
