对于刚开始接触变色龙的朋友，最主要的问题是如何选择一个合适的饲养笼。目前国内主要有一下几种形式，下面根据本人的饲养经验，说明一下几种类型饲养笼的在饲养变色龙上的优劣：
1。 带局部通风的玻璃及有机玻璃饲养缸
此类产品在国外一般被称作Glass Terrariums，爬虫器材品牌HAGEN，ZOOMED都有推出：
其实此类饲养缸的优点是一体成型，美观度极佳，造景后具有很高的观赏度。其次是保温效果好，防水性能佳。 缺点是体积大，运输成本和风险大。造景后需要花比较多的时间和精力进行日常维护和打理工作。也需要HAGEN和ZOOMED的单价也非常高，最主要的是通风差，这个对于饲养变色龙来说是最致命的。
2。定制的木箱
由于木箱属于定制的产品，所以形态和设计各异,
木箱的优点在于保温良好，如果设计良好，通风性能也能达到比较好的效果。
缺点在于防水性比较若，时间长木头容易腐烂。防腐木也很难保证不变形。
3。网笼
近期，变色龙由于其独特的饲养要求，饲养群体的不断壮大，已经饲养经验的不断积累，越来越多的人开始选择网笼饲养，HAGEN继尼龙网笼之后也开发了结构性网笼，ZOOMED也相应的开发了类似产品

网笼的最大优点就是通风，而通风对变色龙饲养是最重要的。 由于材质都为铝和其他轻质材料，所以更加轻便，可拆卸的结构设计也降低了运输成本和运输风险。合理的设计使得日常清洁工作非常方便。
缺点就是保温差，目前大多数的解决方法是增加保温板（材质可选用泡沫板，雪弗板）。
